Movement

I just got a call from an international reporter.

She asked me about my feelings concerning the events that took place in Morocco this weekend when dozens of foreign Christians were expelled in just a matter of days.

My response was first of all that I sympathize with the families and individuals who were adversely affected by the incident. Many of them lost everything they owned and will have to start over. Other believers in the country, Moroccans and expatriates both, are concerned about how far this “witch hunt” will actually go before things cool off. There’s definitely a lot of stress and tension over there right now.

On the other hand, I think this reaction to the Christian influence in the country is a good sign. As long as Christianity is some strange and foreign concept that has no appeal to the people, there is no reason to do anything about it. It’s not a threat when there’s no real movement. However, now that Moroccans are genuinely embracing the message of Jesus Christ and the number of believers continues to grow daily it’s starting to get national attention. Friction indicates that there is some movement.

We have been accused of bribing the people and taking advantage of the weak minded. What most people (including this reporter) seem shocked to find out is that we don’t seek out the people and push Christianity down their throats. In fact, most of them contact us and ask us to bring them Bibles in their own language and explain what it means to be a Christian. A new generation is rising up and asking questions that Islam and Muslim leaders cannot (or will not) answer.

As long as the gospel is being preached, there will always be resistance. It’s a pretty good sign that it’s working. All power in heaven and in earth is given to our Savior Jesus Christ. No obstacle is too great for Him to overcome.
