I deeply respect the king here.
Besides being incredibly fashionable, he’s also a very wise ruler and has made astounding reformations in the country over past nine years that he’s sat on the throne.
I can’t list all of them on this post, but one of my favorites is the way that he has practically done away with polygamy here in the country.
Bound by the Sharia (Muslim) law, he can’t just out right speak against a man marrying multiple women, much less make it a law prohibiting the practice all together. After all, the Qur’an says that a man can have up to four wives if he wants as long as he can take care of them all (how generous!).
However, the king did pass a law that requires every married man who wishes to have another wife to receive certified permission from his first wife before the new marriage can be legally recognized. Ingenious!
What woman in her right mind would sign a legal document giving her husband permission to marry competition?!
Of course there are some who still do it, but the numbers of multiple marriages have significantly decreased since the law was passed.
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” Proverbs 21:1
Pray for the king, that the Lord will continue to use him as the influential leader that he is in the Arab Muslim world.
